Three years rooted.
One year of Imagination.
Three years ago, a decision was made with faithful conviction and very little certainty — to plant something in Lisbon. One year ago, that something became M8triarch: a living room for creatives, a gallery that breathes, a gathering space that feels like home.
If you've been here — for a dinner, a salon, an opening, a workshop, a conversation that ran long into the evening — you already know what this place is. This is for you. Here's what's been happening, and what's coming next.

M8triarch
& gatherings
The Salon returns — and we're celebrating.
Friday, April 3rd lands on a very particular moment: three years to the day since I arrived in Portugal, and one year since M8triarch opened its doors. Although there are quite a few things that happen behind the scenes and across social platforms, we couldn't let that milestone pass quietly.
The Salon is back — and this first return is a celebration. Expect a very special evening: soft sound, sips, treats, an intimate gathering, and something worth dressing for.
After April 3rd, The Salon resumes its rhythm — as a throwback tribute to how I began as a creative space maker, almost 20 years ago in Oakland, CA. We are officially kicking off our very first First Fridays: Graça with M8triarch and a few other friends in the neighborhood. Special guests and programming to be announced.

Ale D'Afrique — Artist in Residence & Programme Manager
Growth looks like this: the people who show up for the work become part of it. Ale D'Afrique has been that presence at M8triarch — creating, contributing, holding the space — and we're formalizing what has already been true.
Ale serves as both our Programme Manager, shaping the operational and creative life of the space day to day, and as Artist in Residence — developing new work inside M8triarch's Atelier. That work is now ready to be seen.

Ale D'Afrique on the air — with Alanna Nichelle as his first guest.
Before the exhibition, before the workshop — Ale D'Afrique launched his radio broadcast, and brought Alanna in as his very first guest. A conversation about M8triarch, creative vision, and what it means to build something from the inside out.
Set aside some time. This one is worth hearing.
Ale D'Afrique Radio · Episode 1 ft. Alanna Nichelle, Founder of M8triarch
Three years here.
Still building the infrastructure.
Alanna Nichelle arrived in Lisbon three years ago — shaped by a life built through art, intuition, and return — and has been building ever since. First the space, then the community, then the programming, now the system beneath it all.
Alanna is developing a patronage platform designed to stabilize and streamline support for independent artists — connecting them with accountable patrons who contribute to creative freedom, not just output. M8triarch's Artist in Residence programme is the working proof: what it looks like when an artist has conditions, not just opportunity.
The details are still being shaped. The direction is clear. More on this soon.
Forty-plus events, residencies, gatherings, and dinners — each one shaped by the people who showed up. A year of stories, inside these walls:
The house keeps filling up.
A few things we can tell you about, and several more we can't quite yet:
Inner Spaces

Mystery Dinner Experience
Something is being planned that we can't quite tell you about yet. Stay close.
M8triarch is also transitioning into a cultural association — enabling us to support artists more directly, apply for funding and partnerships, and expand programming while maintaining the intimacy and integrity of the space. More on this as it takes shape.

Are you building
something here?
M8triarch is a living room for creatives — and it grows through the artists, makers, and cultural producers who bring their work inside it. If you're developing a body of work, seeking a platform for creative exchange, or simply looking for conditions that protect your practice, we'd love to hear from you.
It's a conversation. Reach out, tell us what you're building, and let's see where it goes.
Find Us on Instagram →Thank you — genuinely — to everyone who has gathered here, stayed here, performed here, eaten here, and helped build what this place is becoming. M8triarch continues because there are people who believe that spaces which don't rush, don't flatten, and don't extract are worth protecting.
We'll see you in the house.
